Award ceremony of the Auschwitz Foundation Prizes 2014-2015

The annual award ceremony for the Auschwitz Foundation Prizes took place at the Brussels City Hall on 8 October.


The Auschwitz Foundation Prizes, which in homage to all the victims of Nazi concentration and extermination camps are awarded annually to two high-level university research projects, have been attributed for academic year 2014-2015 to the following researchers:

 

  • The “Auschwitz Foundation Prize” has been awarded to Vincent LEFEBVE for his work entitled Politique des limites, limites de la politique. La place du droit dans la pensée de Hannah Arendt, unpublished PhD under supervision of Julie Allard (ULB) and Luc Wintgens (KUL), ULB – Faculty of Law, 2009-2013.
  • The “Auschwitz Foundation – Jacques Rozenberg Prize”  has been awarded to Kim WÜNSCHMANN for her PhD thesis entitled Before Auschwitz. Jewish Prisoners in the Prewar Concentration Camps, Birkbeck College, University of London – Department of History, Classics and Archaeology, Ph.D. Dissertation, 2012.

 

  • The executive board of the Auschwitz Foundation has granted, as part of a research agreement, a subsidy for a publication in our journal Testimony between history and memory or on our website to the following persons:
    • Magali CHIAPPONE-LUCCHESI, for her work entitled La dramaturgie du témoignage chez Charlotte Delbo. Une écriture de la spectralité, Université Sorbonne-Nouvelle Paris 3, 2015.
    • Anna HÁJKOVÁ, for her work entitled Prisoner Society in the Terezin Gheto, 1941-1945, University of Toronto, 2013.
    • Sébastien LEDOUX, for his work entitled Le temps du “Devoir de mémoire” des années 1970 à nos jours, Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, 2014.
    • Michele TADI, for his work entitled The Art of looting. The recovery of looted artworks through Alternative Dispute Resolution, Università degli studi di Pavia, 2013.

 

  • The “Fellowship of the Auschwitz Foundation” has been awarded to Stipe ODAK for his research project entitled Raising Arms/Raising Armies: An Interdisciplinary Research into the Role of Religion in the Generation and Transformation of Collective Memories of Conflict, the Case of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

     

  • Moreover, the President of the Auschwitz Foundation has wished to reward another meritorious candidate with a “Fellowship of the Association of Former Political Prisoners of Auschwitz-Birkenau, Camps and Prisons of Silesia”. The prize has been granted to Alexandre DACHET for his research project entitled Évaluation du sens accordé par les petits-enfants descendants de survivants de la Shoah aux actes terroristes actuels, en lien avec leur histoire familiale, PhD student in Psychology at the ULB.
