The Annual Award Ceremony of the Foundation Auschwitz Prizes 2024-2025 will take place at the Brussels City Hall on Thursday 23 October at 6 PM.


pfaThe Foundation Auschwitz Prizes are awarded annually to two high-level academic works in honour of all victims of the Nazi concentration camps and extermination centres. We also offer two annual Research Grants.

The Foundation Auschwitz Prizes have been granted for the academic year 2024-2025 to the following researchers:

  • The ‘Foundation Auschwitz Prize’ (€3,125) has been awarded to Timothée BRUNET-LEVEVRE for his doctoral thesis ‘La justice française à l’épreuve du génocide des Tutsi rwandais: Les procès d’Octavien Ngenzi et Tito Barahira devant la Cour d’assises de Paris, 2016-2018’.

  • The ‘Foundation Auschwitz – Jacques Rozenberg Prize’ (€3,125) has been awarded to Justina SMALKYTE for her doctoral thesis ‘Espace, objets, corps: les matérialités des résistances antinazies en Lituanie sous occupation allemande (1941-1944)’.

  •  The ‘Foundation Auschwitz Research Grant’ (€3,125) has been awarded to Nicolas MORZELLE for his doctoral research project ‘Les premiers convois de déportation des Juifs de France avant le rafle du Vél d’Hiv (mars-juin 1942)’.

  • The ‘Foundation Auschwitz – Jacques Rozenberg Research Grant’ (€3,125) has been awarded to Nel DE MUELENAERE for her research project ‘Rebels in Exile: Austrian Resistance to Nazi Occupation in Belgium, 1938-1945’.

The academic session for the presentation of the Foundation Auschwitz Prizes 2024-2025, will take place on Thursday 23 October 2025 at 6 PM sharp (guests welcome from 5:30 PM) in the Gothic Hall of Brussels City Hall – Grand-Place – 1000 Brussels (entrance via the Lions stairs), hosted by:

  • Mr. Philippe CLOSE, Mayor of the City of Brussels, and the Council of the City of Brussels;
  • Baron Henri GOLDBERG, President of the Auschwitz Foundation, and the members of the administrative body;


and will be graced by the presence of:

  • Mrs. Vanessa MATZ, Minister of Government Modernization, responsible for Public Enterprises, Public Administration, Management of State Property, Digitalisation and Science Policy;
  • His Excellency Mr. Xavier LAPEYRE de CABANES, Ambassador of France to Belgium;
  • His Excellency Mr. Dainius PETRAS KAMAITIS, Ambassador of Lithuania to Belgium.
