The Essay Competition is aimed at students in the two final years of Belgian secondary education. Competitors are asked to write an essay commenting on a set subject. The prizes, one for each province and one for the Region of Brussels-Capital, are awarded jointly by the Foundation and the authorities of the provinces of Antwerp, East-Flanders, Flemish-Brabant, Hainaut, Liege, Limburg, Luxemburg, Namur, Walloon-Brabant and West-Flanders.
Each prize consists of a diploma awarded by the Board, €125.00 and the possibility to take part free of charge in the annual study visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau during the Easter holidays.
Educational establishments wishing to take part in the annual competition should contact the Secretariat to obtain a registration form. During January of the year concerned they will receive a circular giving the practical arrangements for the competition, which is held each year on January 27, the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau.
