Auschwitz Foundation - 04-08/11/1991: “Teaching remembrance of Auschwitz. Problems and perspectives”
Old Quarterly Journal (1982-2008)

The Auschwitz Foundation organized this international educational conference in collaboration with the Aktion Sühnezeichen Friedensdienste (Action Reconciliation Service for Peace) and the Brussels Goethe Institute.

35 teachers and other education professionals from Germany, Austria, Belgium, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Poland contributed, and the conference was attended by a large number of members of the teaching profession.

The various contributions provided a wide range of information on national, regional and teaching network specificities and differences regarding programs and textbooks for teaching on the Second World War and, more particularly, on Nazi crimes and genocides. The information collected was used for an initial analysis of the institutional limits on members of the teaching profession (school structures, programs and textbooks), and the degree of autonomy available to them.
