Auschwitz Foundation - Award of the 2012-2013 Auschwitz Foundation Prizes: October 10, 2013

The annual award ceremony for the Auschwitz Foundation Prizes will take place at the Brussels City Hall on Thursday October 10 at 6 PM.


The Auschwitz Foundation Prizes, which in homage to all the victims of Nazi concentration and extermination camps are awarded annually to two high-level university research projects, have been attributed for academic year 2012-2013 to the following researchers:

 

  • The “Auschwitz Foundation Prize” has been awarded to Imke HANSEN for her PhD thesis entitled “Nie wieder Auschwitz! Die Entstehung eines Symbols und der Alltag einer Gedenkstätte, 1945-1955, Dissertation, Universität Hamburg, 2012.
  • The “Auschwitz Foundation – Jacques Rozenberg Prize”  has been awarded to Mariken LENAERTS for her PhD thesis entitled National Socialist Family Law. The Influence of National Socialism on Marriage and Divorce Law in Germany and the Netherlands, Dissertation, Maastricht University, 2012.

 

  • Moreover, the “Fellowship of the Auschwitz Foundation” has been awarded to Antoine BURGARD for his research project entitled Une nouvelle vie dans un nouveau pays. Trajectoires de migrations de jeunes rescapés de la Shoah vers le Canada (1945–1952) [A New Life in a New Country. Migration Trajectories of Young Holocaust Survivors to Canada (1945-1952)], PhD Thesis History, University Lyon 2 / LARHRA and University of Quebec at Montreal.

 

 

An academic session is planned for the prize awards, which will take place in the presence of the highest academic and political authorities of the country. The event will take place at 6 PM in the Gothic Hall of the City Hall, Grand-Place, 1000 Brussels (Lions Staircase entrance).
