On June 12, 2013, a symbolic statue representing the letter “B” that was intentionally positioned upside down by Auschwitz prisoners in the inscription “Arbeit Macht Frei” over the entrance to the camp was presented by the International Auschwitz Committee.
The work bears an inscription by Roman Kent: “Remember: when injustices take place, when people are discriminated against and persecuted – never remain indifferent. Indifference kills.”
The monument was initially unveiled on Wittenbergplatz in Berlin, before travelling to several European cities. It will ultimately be installed at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

The sculpture was unveiled in Brussels by Martin Schulz, President of the European Parliament, on Thursday January 30, 2014, on the Place du Luxembourg, across from the European Parliament. The ceremony was graced by the presence of His Excellency the Ambassador of Germany and His Excellency the Ambassador of Poland.
