Second-generation is not a settlement of scores with History. It is an autobiographical account in which Michel Kichka traces out the key snapshots of his childhood, his youth and a life in the shadow of the Holocaust, from Belgium’s flat landscape to the Promised Land, and going through nightmares, funny memories, moments of happiness and acts of liberation.

Kichka is a famous Israeli author and an eminent cartoonist, and does not only enthusiastically support peace in the Middle East, but is also the son of a man who was the only survivor of his family after the war. When he was 20 years old, his father came back in Belgium, his native country. He had two daughters and two sons, but he also had a very burdensome personal story. Because of that, his children thought of little else but to liberate themselves from it, each in his own way. With a unique and touching tone, a personal and poignant story, Second-generation is a graphic novel halfway between an account and a historical documentary. It is a splendid and puzzling comic strip.
